We shuffle through leaves turned brown and fallen. Horse chestnut cases prickle our pathway, as sunlight breaks through grey clouds drifting across a late October sky.
Sheltered beneath the mighty arms of a horse chestnut tree, we search for conkers that are ‘big and shiny-brown’. Rain begins to fall through a sun-touched sky and the game changes.
Young eyes search above, the conker harvest forgotten. The falling rain captures the last rays of the day and colours coalesce forming a perfect arc across the sky.
“Come on, daddy! Before it disappears!”
Our two kids are off and running, chasing rainbows.
